Foster The People-Torches

Hot Chip meets MGMTs on Foster the Peoples debut ‘Torches’. ‘Pumped up Kids’ has been doing the rounds for sometime (I think I first D.Jed it out about a year ago, there are also some great remixes around) and is a good indication of what to expect on the rest of the album. Infectious grooves, great hooks and catchier melodies all vie for top billing across these ten songs. The influences are far ranging, you can hear disco, eighties (Colour on the Walls owes a lot to E=mc2 by Big Audio Dynamite) whistling, handclaps, funk, strings, soul, dance, ambience, electronica, it’s a lot of styles to take in but it works. Pop this on your stereo, pour yourself a cold drink and sit in the sunshine, its perfect.
