Rue Royale-Guide to an Escape

‘Guide to an Escape’ is the latest album from Rue Royale an eerie, melancholy collection of songs in the vein of Angus & Julia Stone or even Simon & Garfunkel. Each composition hangs like washing from a line in a summer breeze every so often catching the warm droplets of rain in the air. As the vocals effortlessly weave into each other mixing brilliantly over the sparse laidback musical landscapes the songs pick and pluck their way casually into the listener’s ears demanding your subtle attention. Layers of brushed drums nestle alongside bells and percussive beats, clicks and handclaps, harmonies and soft keys. It’s a heady mix but it’s really the two voices that will keep you coming back for more, whispered, breathy and yet strangely warming.
