My Chemical Romance-Danger Days

My Chemical Romance have come a long way from their humble emo beginnings through to the flamboyant pompousness of last album ‘The Black Parade’ and ‘Danger Days’ goes no way to stop that rises of opinion. With a theme nicked from ‘Songs for the Deaf’ and later used expertly by Grand Theft Auto the band create a Mad Max style road trip of an album that dresses up and drives across a fictional pop/punk landscape. Lead single Na Na Na, despite sounding like a Zutons song to start with, is as good an inclination of the albums overall feel as any and tracks like S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W prove the band can certainly write a cracking tune. The only downside is when the band start to sound like Muse trying to be Queen, it’s just a stretch too far and although going someway to filling their stadium sized boots it does sounds a little bit too overblown. That said the band clearly want to be big and at least they have to tunes to back up their ideas and enough rock and roll in them to make whatever moves they make have all eyes on them. If they can keep playing the game and denting the charts then they will, I have no doubt, get to be one of the biggest bands on the planet and fair play to them.
