Vic Chesnutt

It is with great sadness that I found out today that Athens singer/songwriter Vic Chesnutt passed away on December 25th he was just 45. His troubles began when he was left paralysed in a car accident when he was 18 and since had suffered depression and constant pain still able to play the guitar he was first spotted by Michael Stipe who also produced his first two records. In his career he made up to 15 albums some of his latest being his best work collaborating with the likes of Elf Power, God Speed and A Silver Mt. Zion. His music described by some as haunting, funny, poignant, and occasionally mystical is the legacy of a man whom while revered and admired by his peers never really broke through which is why many reading this will have not heard of him. Troubled to the end it is with great sadness that this final act my have been by his own hand and I can only hope now that he has found peace. But wherever he is now he should know that his music touched so many and will continue to do so. James Victor "Vic" Chesnutt (November 12, 1964 – December 25, 2009).
