A Scanner Darkly

Firstly 500 hours of cell painting has paid off turning live footage in to rotoscoping and looking fantastic. The technique first used in ‘Waking Life’ here does seem to step up a notch on the aesthetic scale. The only real let down is the story, which apart from a few twists at the end is actually quite boring. The major revelation I could see coming so early into the film it was just a matter of waiting for it to happen. That said it is a visual treat that would lend itself to multiple watches easily, just don’t expect too much from the loose plot.
